The browser keeps unrounded values for the full calculation, then displays practical decimal precision in the result cards.
Forty-five minutes is 0.75 hours. Dividing 3 km by 0.75 hours produces an average speed of 4 km/h. Dividing 45 minutes by 3 km produces an average pace of 15 minutes per kilometre.
Including stationary time lowers the calculated average speed and increases average pace.
Phone, watch and map distances can differ because of GPS accuracy, signal loss and route smoothing.
Hills, surfaces, crowds and weather can change the time taken, but this arithmetic calculator does not evaluate their safety.
A route calculation cannot decide what is safe or appropriate for an individual dog. Do not use average speed to push a dog to maintain a target pace. Stop if a dog appears distressed, and seek veterinary advice before changing activity for a dog with health concerns, pain, exercise intolerance or unusual breathing.
It divides distance by time after converting minutes to hours. For example, 3 kilometres covered in 45 minutes equals an average speed of 4 kilometres per hour.
