Manchester Terrier

The Manchester Terrier is a small, sleek terrier breed originating from Manchester, England. It has a short, black-and-tan coat and is known for being alert, intelligent, loyal, energetic, spirited, and independent. Its size is estimated at 38–41 cm in height and 5–10 kg in weight for both sexes. The breed's recognition status varies by registry. The Manchester Terrier was developed in 19th-century Manchester, England, by crossing Black and Tan Terriers with Whippets. It was created as a proficient rat-killer and rabbit-courser for working men of the industrial era. The breed is known as the 'Gentleman's Terrier' in Victorian England and exists in both Standard and Toy varieties. Its recognition by kennel clubs varies by registry; for example, it has been recognized by the AKC since 1886, but this date is not universally applicable.
